In 2014 and 2015 our major fundraising project was our “Long Lunch” in support of the Hospice, which raised approx.. $11,000 and $22,000 respectively. The hospice is currently undergoing some financial problems which has forced the temporary closure, but it is anticipated that it will re-open later in 2016. Our “Long Lunch” project has therefore been postponed until later in the year.

Announcing the “Eumundi Rotary Long Lunch” Sunday March 12th 2017

The Rotary Club of Eumundi, is again proud to take the lead on one of the most significant fundraisers for hospices serving our region. This year’s “Eumundi Rotary Long Lunch” will be held on Sunday March 12th, 2017. Funds raised will go to support the Katie Rose Cottage, Cittamani Hospice and Hummingbird House.

The lunch will commence at 11.30am under the fig trees and in the recently rainproofed venue at the famous Original Eumundi Markets with doors open at 11am. With a theme of “Carnivale” running, the venue will be brightly decorated with food to match. Prepared by Eumundi international chefs Andy Dundas (The Figtree) and Ned Nolan (The Bohemian Bungalow) the meal will be three classy courses of gourmet sharing plates and platters based on local regional products. BYO soft drinks and alcohol will allow guests their own choices for refreshment. A bar of wine, beer, soft drinks and waters will also be available. Wine glasses will be present on tables.

We can also announce that Celebrity Chef Matt Golinski will be giving a cooking demonstration – a must see! Matt is a Sunshine Coast boy. Executive chef at Ricky Ricardos, TV shows like “Ready Steady Cook” and work with other celebrity chefs in the “Plates for Mates” initiative are some of Matt’s achievements.

Music will be provided by The Doo Wop Dolls and Associates – based on a unique harmony group whose arrangements of popular songs include their very own take on Carnivale. All Eumundi favourites, an absolute delight.

Door and raffle prizes, auctions and a best Carnivale mask prize will keep everybody hopping and further support this fundraising event.

Tickets are $60 per person of which $30 is tax deductible and will be supported by a tax receipt. The funds raised will help continue the outstanding work of providing nursing care and support to the terminally ill. Tables may be booked for six or more people but singles and couples are very welcome and will be seated with new friends.

President of The Rotary Club of Eumundi, Greg Molyneux, is so pleased to again be a part of this important community event. “Previous Long Lunches have been a great success raising well over $30,000 to support this valuable work. The event this year promises interest and fun in the wonderful Eumundi Markets venue under the trees. It will be great to see everyone, new lunchers and old munchers, to make this year’s event even more successful. Based on previous success, supporters should make their bookings quickly as we have to limit numbers to 300. Ticket sales are planned to close on Thursday, 2nd March” Greg said.

Lunch bookings are at Ticketebo www.ticketebo.com.au. Further info and assistance with ticketing from Rotary’s Les Godwin on 0411 877 346 or 5471 1155 or les@davidsondem.com.au

Vanuatu – Cyclone assistance

In 2015 we donated $1,000 to aid in Vanuatu. Cooroy Rotary Club has also matched the offer and these funds have been sent to a known contact in Vanuatu. These people have been regularly keeping our clubs informed of the progress of the assistance that has been made possible by our funds.

Longreach Drought Relief Christmas Raffle

In November/December 2015 our club conducted a raffle to support the struggling farming community in the Longreach area. In addition 175 pamper packs containing essential family toiletries (thanks to the many donators) were delivered to the area prior to Christmas along with a large quantity of Christmas wrapped children’s books – thanks to Berkelouws for the wonderful donations of books. Thanks to Thelma Laedwig for delivering the goodies to Brisbane (and for her tireless efforts in ticket selling) and thanks to Qantas for delivering them to the outback. We also organised for 160 Christmas cakes to be delivered to the families for Christmas.

Thanks also to the Verrierdale Community Association for their wonderful donation of $1,000. All in all we raised $5,657 through the raffle and donations, and after our earlier purchases, we can now report that $4,000 has been forwarded to the Longreach Rotary club for distribution to the needy families in the form of gift vouchers for redemption in the local businesses.
Winners of the raffle: 1st prize Ross Gilby; 2nd Prize Ray Whiting; and 3rd prize Wendy Birrell.
