|Last Night’s Meeting
Guests. We welcomed DG John Lane and his partner Bo Morse, our exchange student Amalia, Rae Smart, President Noosa Head Club and Stuart Mason, Member Noosa Head Club (Rae and Stuart working with Greg I on possible joint project). Weather affected highway, members attendance and our presentation technology?
Guest Speaker. DG John emphasised the theme for this year Rotary Making a Difference included dealing with challenges with possible amalgamations of districts to better fit with the reality of lifestyles and values in the western world in the current decade. John mentioned in any transition to larger districts, an option might be to have larger clusters with closer connections and greater responsibilities than currently, also more professional training for Rotarians, looking outside Rotary for expertise and renewal. John encouraged everyone to take the 10 minutes only that is needed to enter or update a Rotarian’s record on www.my rotary.org. He made a powerful point – you just need your Rotary number (and he handed out a membership list to attendees with that detail on it.) The website is a fantastic source of info and it’s organised to match each Rotarian. Interesting statistics there too about our Club since we formed nearly four years ago. Maybe we can challenge each other to be on line and with up-to-date details before March comes?
|Bo gave a plug for the District Conference on 20-22 April at Maroochy RSL. On line registrations open Monday. A refreshed, vibrant program has been developed with strong speakers and hopefully there will be a good representation from Eumundi. For info go to http://www.rotary9600.org/conference/brochure2018.pdf. Bo spoke of a charity operating a dialysis service in very remote areas west of Alice Springs – The Purple House and the Purple Truck are providing a mobile dialysis service to individuals who would otherwise face almost total separation from their families and their country because of the constancy of treatment requirements.
Guest speaker for next week’s meeting is Cathy Buck. She is SC Council’s Disaster Management Coordinator. She is a great presenter re disaster management and disaster resilience for our Eumundi community and services. It’s definitely an opportunity to invite contacts from schools, businesses, community organisations as well as your partner and friends.
