Last Night’s Meeting
Guests. We welcomed Margaret’s Daughter Kate along with Amalia and her host mum Janet.
Guest Speaker. We were fortunate to have Janelle Denny (Executive Officer) for Smart Pups along with Belinda (Trainer) and Labradoodle Miss Danni. Smart Pumps was established in 2011 to specialise in the provision of Assistance Dogs for children – they became the 1st organisation to place dogs with a child. Their goal is to improve the quality of life of children living with autism, seizure related syndromes and mobility issues. The organisation does not receive any government funding (as the Assistance Dogs are not viewed has having a great enough impact on the children), relying solely on contributions from the recipient family and the generosity of corporate and community support. Their vision is for this to change so increased funding will allow families greater access to the dogs. The organisation has placed 100 dogs Australia wide with 50 dogs currently being trained on the Sunshine Coast.
