Longreach Drought Relief Christmas Raffle

In November/December 2015 our club conducted a raffle to support the struggling farming community in the Longreach area. In addition 175 pamper packs containing essential family toiletries (thanks to the many donators) were delivered to the area prior to Christmas along with a large quantity of Christmas wrapped children’s books – thanks to Berkelouws for the wonderful donations of books. Thanks to Thelma Laedwig for delivering the goodies to Brisbane (and for her tireless efforts in ticket selling) and thanks to Qantas for delivering them to the outback. We also organised for 160 Christmas cakes to be delivered to the families for Christmas.

Thanks also to the Verrierdale Community Association for their wonderful donation of $1,000. All in all we raised $5,657 through the raffle and donations, and after our earlier purchases, we can now report that $4,000 has been forwarded to the Longreach Rotary club for distribution to the needy families in the form of gift vouchers for redemption in the local businesses.
Winners of the raffle: 1st prize Ross Gilby; 2nd Prize Ray Whiting; and 3rd prize Wendy Birrell.

Great Noosa Trail Walk

We support the organisers of the Great Noosa Trail Walk, by assisting the walkers to erect tents, and organise the safe transport of their luggage to the next camping ground.   We have also assisted in the setting up of a pop-up tea stand – serving cakes, tea and coffee to the walkers along the way.

Melbourne Cup Party

We hold a fun party with Sweeps, a hobby horse race and a cent sale to raise funds for the Riding for Disabled.  In 2018 and 2019 we raised $1,200 and $1,800 respecively.
